NAVIO Surgical System

What is NAVIO Surgical System?

NAVIO Surgical system is a state-of-the-art robotics-assisted technology allowing your Orthopedic Surgeon to plan in advance a tailor-made procedure based on the patient’s unique anatomy. It also eliminates the necessity of CT Scan which is often time consuming and a radiation-intensive investigation. The robotic system works in conjunction with your surgeon’s skilled hands to attain precise positioning of implants.

Why is NAVIO Surgical System used?

NAVIO Surgical System uses the advanced robotics-assisted technology that relays precise information about your knee to a hand-held robotic piece for performing total and partial knee replacement.

What happens during the procedure?

The procedure will be conducted under anaesthesia. Your surgeon will make an incision along the front of your knee, just to the side of the knee cap, to access the damaged area and will inspect the knee. With the help of NAVIO Surgical system, your surgeon collects the anatomical data and generates a 3D virtual model of your knee, which is further used for planning the surgery. Thus, proper implant placement and knee balance are first achieved virtually, crucial for a successful surgery.

When the surgical plan is finalised, the robotics-assisted handpiece is used by your surgeon to remove the damaged surfaces of your knee, balance your joint, and position the implant with greater precision. The incision site is cleaned and closed.

How long will it take?

Generally, knee replacement surgeries take around 60 to 90 minutes. However, with the NAVIO Surgical system’s virtual planning and smaller incision the duration of surgery is significantly reduced.

What happens after the procedure?

Each patient’s postoperative care will vary depending upon the severity of injury and other factors. Early movement of your operative knee with assistance will be encouraged, depending upon your condition. Generally, after surgery, patients are allowed to walk with the assistance of a cane, crutches or walker. A physical therapist will prescribe exercises to help you restore your knee strength and function, and to increase range of motion. It is common for your knee to experience swelling, stiffness and tightness. However, you can always discuss your concern with your treating doctor. Based on your recovery, discharge will be planned and follow-up visits will be scheduled.
