THE SILENT EPIDEMIC
A sedentary lifestyle, stress and unhealthy habits have been recognized as the main causes for the ever-increasing cases of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), like obesity, diabetes, cancer, chronic lung and cardiovascular diseases. These NCDs now contribute to almost 70% of mortalities in India. It is estimated that 1 in 10 Indians suffers from an NCD and the prevalence is increasing in those who are in the ages 25-55. This underlines poor lifestyles of the most productive population and that does not bode well for a country like ours, which has over 65 per cent of its population, under the age of 35 years. According to the World Economic Forum, by 2030, the world could lose over 30 trillion dollars and about 36 million people will die every year due to NCDs if rapid remedial action is not taken up.
The good news is that timely detection and the right management of these diseases can significantly achieve better outcomes and lower the risk of serious complications and premature health events, and in some cases, fully curable. Even more important is the need for a personalized plan since every individual varies in body constitution, lifestyle, habits and family history, to be healthier tomorrow than one is today. It is also evident that, those at different levels and life-stages typically face different health challenges.
70% of the NCDs are Preventable
The Government of India recognises the importance of Preventive Health and has granted a tax benefit under Section 80D of Income Tax Act for any expenses incurred for preventive health programs.
You can avail Rs. 5,000 for the cost incurred for preventive health check-ups for self, spouse, children or parents.
In case you pay for the preventive health check-ups of your parents who are 60 years or above, you are eligible to avail Rs. 7,000 as the tax deduction under Section 80D of Income Tax Act, 1961.

APOLLO’S COMMITMENT TO PREVENTIVE HEALTH - MILESTONES
Dr. Prathap C Reddy curated the concept of routine health screenings, now famous as the Master Health Check in 1973, as a cardiologist in Chennai’s HM Hospital. When he launched Apollo Hospital in 1983, the Preventive Health Center of Excellence was set up as well.
Our goal since then has been to find innovative approaches for early identification of NCDs and reduce the risk of premature health events. Further, we want to help people understand their health status and risk much more meaningfully, creating personalised treatment and care plans, and creating an ecosystem through Apollo physical and digital network to make care more accessible.

The rising incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is especially affecting the health of corporates. Because these diseases are manifesting at increasingly younger ages - striking employees in their most productive years across the social and demographic strata.
A skewed work-life balance, tobacco use, physical inactivity, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diets, incorrect eating habits, lack of sleep, all these and more contribute to poor health.
Organisations need a solution that can be smart enough to not just assess present health but also PREDICT future risk. And prescribe a long-term approach to effectively PREVENT health threats as well as OVERCOME existing conditions

Frequently Asked Questions
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) contribute to approximately 70% of all deaths globally. The four NCDs mainly responsible for the total NCD mortality and morbidity are cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory disease, cancers, and diabetes.
Many individuals in India and overseas may have an NCD in its early stages right now but maybe ignorant regarding this because they don't have signs and symptoms. Getting a preventive health screening can identify the onset of an NCD and set the stage for timely medical intervention at an early stage so that disease progression may be halted.
The usual health checks comprise a standard set of diagnostic tests for any individual regardless of age, gender, medical history, family history, lifestyle, or other relevant factors. It is also a snapshot of your health status right now, doesn’t tell you anything about the future. At Apollo, we feel that is not enough information to help you. Therefore, we have designed ProHealth, which is different from the usual health checks in the following ways:
- ProHealth is personalized and tailored just for you: It generates a customized set of tests based on a physician's evaluation of your risks unique to you – using your medical history, family history, lifestyle, and other clinical parameters.
- ProHealth is predictive: We can now predict your risk for the onset of various chronic disease conditions based on your current health status and other risk factors.
- ProHealth ensures you stay on the path to wellness: Through health mentor calls, ProHealth app and nudges specific to your health, we will ensure you follow a proactive lifestyle and remain compliant with your physician's guidance regarding your treatment goals and overall management plan.
Most NCDs are asymptomatic in their initial stage. Getting a preventive health screening and risk assessment done can help detect the onset of an NCD at an early stage based on diagnostic and imaging tests and pave the path for timely intervention and monitoring disease progress and response to therapeutic interventions. This proactive approach also helps decrease healthcare expenditure in the long run.
Health screenings will begin with a detailed history and general physical examination, including a health risk assessment, followed by diagnostic tests (sample collections), imaging tests, and physician consultations. A report of the results will then be generated for a physician to review and discuss with you.
Since many tests require an overnight fast, we advise you to undergo your health screening only in the morning. However, if it is convenient for you to have the samples taken in the evening, we can set it up.
For the tests that require overnight fasting, we can arrange for the samples to be collected from your home or check with your doctor if the test is necessary.
We also have Apollo Evening Health screening for those who do not find it convenient to report in the morning hours. These assessments have slight modifications to the original panel of tests and require a minimum of 5 hours of fasting.
We advise that you not eat or drink anything except water for 8-12 hours before the glucose and lipid profile tests. Typically, a 12-hour fast is required for a lipid or cholesterol panel because one of the tests (triglyceride level) is higher when not fasting. An 8-hour overnight fast is usually recommended when fasting glucose is tested.
After you have given your fasting blood samples, you will be served breakfast in one of the guest dining lounges.
Yes, you are requested to bring all your health records and any medications you regularly take to the health screening (including any medications you take on an empty stomach). Having this data will help us gauge your personal, medical, and family history better. Our ProHealth assessment team will advise you on which medicines to take before the blood draw and which to take afterwards.
Yes, we do offer home sample collection. Availability of home sample collection will depend on the health program chosen and the hospital unit/region.
You can call the Apollo ProHealth toll-free number 1860 500 0707 for assistance regarding booking a home sample collection based on where you reside.
Our guests’ safety is our top priority. Apollo has taken all necessary precautions to curb the spread of COVID-19 within the premises, including social distancing, wearing masks, and frequent hand sanitization. We emphasize taking prior appointments to avoid crowding and streamline registration, billing, diagnostic and imaging tests, and physician consults. We also have measures to prevent crowding in the elevators, waiting lounges, and dining halls.
Your report delivery time will vary depending on the hospital unit.
The delivery time will vary between same day (8 hours) to within 48 hours. In case of specific tests whose results sometimes take more time, it may take up to 72 hours
The number of physicians you will visit will depend on the ProHealth Program you have chosen and results from the screening. However, every ProHealth program includes General Medicine physician (for all) and a Gynaecologist consult (for women) or Surgeon consult (for men).
Yes. You can get a personalized preventive health screening done for general health screening even if you're pregnant. However, we will not include imaging tests involving radiation. Since you will have antenatal check-ups every trimester during your pregnancy, we recommend that you consult your obstetrician before scheduling a preventive health screening.
If you are menstruating, you will be able to have all diagnostic and imaging tests for your health screening, EXCEPT a Pap smear. You can schedule your Pap test at least five days after the end of your menstrual period.
