Dr. Shalin Dubey, Laparoscopic surgeon, Apollo Hospitals – Navi Mumbai successfully performed surgery on a 17-year-old patient with complicated liver and spleen injury
The Patient, Mr. Abhishek Panduang Gharat suffered a fall from the 2nd floor and was brought to Apollo Hospitals with a complicated liver and spleen injury. His condition was critical but the moment he arrived in the Emergency Room, he was stabilized. The nature and extent of his injury was diagnosed with a CT scan and was shifted to ICU for further management.
He was immediately attended by the surgical and liver unit and a combined decision was taken to manage him non-operatively because the mortality associated with surgery in such patients is very high. He was monitored round the clock with blood investigations and a pseudo aneurysm was diagnosed on 5th day, which was again treated non-operatively by Angio embolization.
The Patient recovered well and was discharged on the 9th day and he even gave his exams 4 weeks later. This case demonstrated modern, multidisciplinary, non operative management and cohesive team effort from admission till final intervention with an excellent outcome by the team at Apollo Hospitals.
