The 2nd Annual Conference of GAPIO, the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin.

The 2nd Annual Conference of GAPIO, the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin is scheduled to be held at Hyderabad, India on the 4th and 5th of January, 2012, at Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad.

With an endeavor to bring together physicians of Indian Origin from across the globe together on one platform, the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) was launched on 4th Jan 2011 with a vision to improving healthcare worldwide. It is estimated that there are 1.2 million physicians of Indian Origin working in India and several countries of the world out of which 125,500 Physicians of Indian Origin work in USA, UK, Australia and Canada. This substantial workforce of physicians is a valuable resource, which can help to mobilize significant developments in the health field globally.

GAPIO is envisioned as a common, powerful and professional platform of Indian-origin doctors that will bring a greater visibility and cohesiveness amongst the Indian medical community to help shape healthcare in underserved areas and work towards quality healthcare and affordable access for all. It is time for the Indian doctor to influence not only the health of individuals and communities but, global health.

The inaugural conference at Delhi had participation from 150 key opinion leaders from across the world where various issues were be discussed spread across 9 breakout sessions ranging from Research, Education, and Healthcare Policy to Application of Health Information Technology and Global Health. The discussions would be carried forward in the forth coming conference at Hyderabad on 4th and 5th January 2012.

At the Hyderabad GAPIO conference there will be six scientific sessions on Women and Child health, Cardio vascular diseases, Diabetes, Oncology and Mental health and Surgery.
