Apollo Hospitals under the aegis of “Gift A Life” to partner with HCL to create awareness on Organ Donation in the country, through an initiative named as “DAAN”. Pledge to be an Organ Donor on February 29th, 2012.

DAAN, is an initiative in which the Apollo Hospitals group is actively involved. This is an initiative promoted by an array of institutions from the Government and the private sector, namely the HCL, Apollo Hospitals Group, MOHAN foundation, Chennai Police, Tamilnadu Government transplantation department and the Indian Medical association.

“Gift a Life” is a public interest initiative for organ donation, by Apollo Hospitals Group.

In our country with more than a billion Indians, we are able to give life only to few thousands through organ donation. Our organ donation rate is less than .005/million. While we have more than 150000 Kidney failure Indians waiting for kidney donation only 3500 are supported, for 100000+ requiring liver transplantations only 0.01% and less than 1000 are supported for heart transplantation.

The campaign is aimed at creating awareness for a period of one month on Organ Donation. After the awareness campaign there would be one day of pledging, where each would enroll as organ donors. As an outcome of this initiative we would be creating a new record for the “Maximum number of people pledging as Organ Donors (24 Hours)” and thus spreading the message to the outside world for other to follow.
