Prof (Dr) Archana Kumar said, “India accounts for more than 20% of the total childhood cancer cases. Every year, 2 lakh children die of cancer globally and the number is gradually increasing. Children are not adults; their needs are different and need to be treated by someone who is specially trained to look after them. Pediatric oncologists are responsible for treating all malignant conditions among children like leukemia, bone cancers, Wilms tumor, brain and spinal cord tumors among several others. With timely, appropriate and complete treatment, majority of children with cancer get cured and can lead their lives peacefully.
Dr Anil Sharma said, “Apollomedics Super Specialty Hospital, Lucknow will now offer comprehensive child cancer treatment. Pediatric oncology at the hospital deals with the treatment of complex cancers as well as blood disorders in children. Contrary to general belief, only 5 percent of pediatric cancers are genetic. Identifying the disease early and getting a protocol based treatment by a pediatric oncologist and ensuring fewer treatment dropouts is of paramount importance to improve survival and cure rates.
“At Apollomedics Super Specialty Hospital, Lucknow, we are providing all super specialty medical services under one roof to the people of the state and nearby areas. Kidney transplant, liver transplant, brain stroke management, complete treatment of all types of cancer as well as world class ICU and 24×7 emergency and trauma facilities are now available at Lucknow itself, for which earlier people have to travel to big cities like Delhi, Mumbai. Recently our team has successfully transplanted kidney and liver obtained from a living donor and a cadaver donor.”, Dr Somani added.
