In a major advance in emergency and precision care, Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Teynampet, Chennai, has unveiled a state-of-the-art catheterisation laboratory (cath lab), featuring advanced imaging and low-dose radiation systems. The facility was officially inaugurated by Shri M.P. Saminathan, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Tamil Development, Information, and Publicity, on 13 August 2025, alongside senior doctors of Apollo Hospitals.
Designed to support lifesaving, minimally invasive procedures, the cath lab is tailored for complex emergencies in cardiology, neurology, and oncology. Outfitted with high-resolution 3D imaging, stent motion visualization, neurovascular support, and low-dose radiation, it serves as a critical resource for diagnosing and treating heart attacks, strokes, vascular blockages, and certain cancers through small incisions or catheter insertion.
Dr. A.L. Narayanan, Clinical Lead and Head of Interventional Cardiology, hailed the imaging technology as the “GPS for the human body”, providing real-time navigation with pinpoint targeting of diseased vessels and tissues. This enables swift decisions during emergencies and shortens patient recovery times.
Dr. Harshad Reddy, Director of Cancer and International Division, termed the launch a milestone in Apollo Hospitals’ journey to providing state-of-the-art, technology-based medical treatment. He pointed out that the new facility would enhance diagnosis by significantly improving diagnostic capabilities and streamlining treatment.
Hospital officials underscored that the lab is a significant step towards delivering minimally invasive treatment, minimizing open surgeries. This means safer, faster interventions and quicker recovery of patients.
This launch is further proof of Apollo Hospitals’ dedication to using innovation to enhance results in high-risk clinical situations — providing hope, rapidity, and accuracy to patients in Chennai and farther afield.
