Apollo College of Physiotherapy

The Apollo College of Physiotherapy was established in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh in 1999 by the Apollo Hospitals Educational & Research Foundation. It is located in Jubilee Hills and affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, in Vijayawada. The institution is in a new building and will enrol its ninth batch of students in October 2007. The aim of the Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy program taught in English is to impart in-depth knowledge and skills to students to become competent in the techniques of Physiotherapy, develop the proper attitude required for the practice of Physiotherapy and carry our treatment prescribed by the physician.

The duration of the course is four academic years followed by six months of compulsory internship. Each year of study is divided into two semesters of study. The students are promoted to the third semester only upon clearing all the subjects of the first and second semesters. In order to appear for the final examination at the end of the eighth semester, the candidate should pass all subjects up to and including the seventh semester. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to appear for the Final Semester Examination.

During the four years of intensive course work, students are taught 40 subjects for a total of 3200 instructional hours including but not limited to orientation and Instruction to Treatment, Physical Education, English, Sociology, Psychology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry to Physiotherapy in Orthopaedic conditions, Physiotherapy in Neurological conditions, Bio-mechanics and Applied Anatomy to Physiotherapy in Cardiorespiratory conditions, and last but the not least Rehabilitation medicine including Geriatrics.

In addition to the classroom teaching of 3,200 hours, students have six clinical for a total of 1,220 hours. The six-month internship of 1,150 hours at the successful completion of the four-year program completes the eligibility requirements for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree.

Student’s exposure to clinical starts in the third semester. Students are posted in batches at Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad and other Hospitals. In addition to in-patient and outpatient hospital postings, students also see patients in the college of Physiotherapy and Intensive care units between 120 to 200 patients per day. Students also take part in workshops, scientific seminars, conferences, and group projects to develop teamwork, enthusiasm, and commitment.

The Apollo College of Physiotherapy also gives undivided attention to co-curricular activities like debates, quizzes, sports, painting, singing, drama and cultural competitions Upon the completion of the degree program, students have been exposed to the highest quality of education exceeded only by a holistic approach grooming the students to become honourable citizens and distinguished professionals with highest ethical standards.
