Obstetrical Ultrasound Unit (OUU)
- The OUU is home to a state-of-the-art 4D, real-time ultrasound imaging system, which is primarily used in analyzing fetal development.
- One of the key procedures is obstetric scanning which can be performed at any stage throughout the pregnancy. Early scans are performed to assist in dating the pregnancy, twenty-week anatomy scans provide detailed information about the development of the baby and growth scans provide on-going information on the growth and development of the fetus.
- It will be possible to provide pictures of the baby for the mother to take home. The ultrasound images/ scans can be recorded and made available to the parents on request.
- The laboratory and a small x-ray unit will be close at hand to enable the clinician to obtain diagnostic and radiological tests, whenever needed. A small but adequate blood storage and dispatch area will guard against the possibility of post partum hemorrhage.
