Nipple Reconstruction & Tattooing
Nipple reconstruction is often the final step in the breast reconstruction journey, offering the finishing touch that enhances symmetry, natural appearance, and a sense of completeness. At Apollo Athenaa Women’s Cancer Centre, we offer both surgical and non-surgical options tailored to each patient’s preferences and healing status.
How the Procedure is Performed
- Surgical Nipple Reconstruction
This involves the use of local skin flaps to create a three-dimensional nipple mound. Small skin flaps are carefully folded, sutured, and shaped to mimic the projection of a natural nipple. Over time, the reconstructed nipple may flatten slightly, but this is expected. To enhance colour and realism, areola tattooing is usually performed 6–8 weeks later, once the area has fully healed.
- 3D Nipple-Areola Tattooing
This is a non-surgical alternative that uses advanced tattooing techniques to recreate the illusion of a natural nipple and areola. Highlights and shadows are applied to simulate depth and texture, even on flat skin. The colours are matched to your skin tone or your other breast (if applicable).
