Cervical Cancer Care Prevention. Detection.
Personalized For Her.
At Apollo Athenaa, the approach to treating cervical cancer is both clinical and compassionate. Every woman is treated not just as a case, but as a person with unique needs, concerns, and a life beyond the diagnosis.
Types Of
Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is classified based on where it originates:

  • This is the most frequent type, making up up to 90% of cases.
  • It develops from the squamous cells that cover the outer part of the cervix (ectocervix).

  • This type arises from the mucus-producing glandular cells in the inner part of the cervix (endocervix).
  • It accounts for about 10% to 20% of cervical cancers.

  • This is a less common type that has features of both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.

World-Class Diagnostics
& Early Detection

When detected early, cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers. Through HPV DNA testing, Pap smears, and AI-enhanced imaging, Athenaa empowers women with precision diagnostics & screening.

Diagnostics

At Athenaa, we believe in leaving no question unanswered. Our advanced diagnostics suite includes:

All procedures are performed at Athenaa by specialists in women’s imaging and pathology, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort.

Screening

At Athenaa, we believe that every woman deserves the power of early, accurate detection.

  • Regular screening: Pap smears and HPV tests can detect early changes before they become cancer.
  • HPV vaccination: Available for girls and boys, ideally before becoming sexually active. It offers strong protection against the types of HPV that cause most cervical cancers.

Cervical cancer often develops silently, but regular screening gives every woman the power to detect changes early — when prevention and treatment are most effective.

Staging of Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is staged using the FIGO system, which ranges from Stage 0 to Stage IV. The stage indicates the cancer's size and how far it has spread. Overall, the 5-year survival rate is about 67%, but this jumps to 91% for early-stage cervical cancer and drops significantly for metastatic cases.

Stage 0

Stage II

Our Approach To Treatment

From minimally invasive surgery to targeted and immunotherapies, every treatment plan at Athenaa is designed to be effective, personalized, and deeply compassionate.

Surgical Oncology

Cancer surgery shouldn’t mean losing a part of yourself. Our specialists use advanced, organ-preserving techniques to remove cancer with precision—protecting both health and a woman’s sense of self:

  • Trachelectomy for women desiring fertility preservation
  • Radical hysterectomy (open or laparoscopic) for early invasive disease
  • Robotic-assisted surgery for enhanced precision and recovery
  • Pelvic exenteration for recurrent or advanced cervical cancer after radiation, involving removal of affected pelvic organs to eliminate all remaining disease
  • Lymph node dissection (pelvic or para-aortic) for staging and treatment
  • Debulking or palliative procedures for symptom relief in advanced cases

Surgical oncology at Apollo Athenaa includes a wide range of gynecological procedures, tailored to the disease stage and patient preferences.

Medical Oncology

At Athenaa, cancer treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Our medical oncology team designs therapies around each woman’s tumor biology and life goals — bringing the best of global breakthroughs into compassionate personalized care.

Apollo Athenaa’s chemotherapy day-care unit is designed for comfort, privacy, and safe administration under the supervision of experienced medical oncologists.

Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is a core component in the treatment of cervical cancer, especially in locally advanced stages. It may be used:

  • Concurrent chemoradiation: Often combined with chemotherapy when surgery is not an option
  • Adjuvant radiation: Done following surgery; recommended when high-risk features such as lymph node involvement or positive margins are found
  • Brachytherapy: Internal radiation placed close to the tumor site for precise dose delivery with minimal exposure to surrounding organs
  • Palliative radiation: Used to control bleeding, pain, or other symptoms in advanced disease.
Survivorship & Supportive Care

At Athenaa, our care does not stop when treatment ends. Survivorship is about restoring health, dignity, and confidence, helping every woman live fully, thrive, and embrace life after cancer.
