Precision Tumor Mapping
icon.png

At Apollo Athenaa, precision tumor mapping is a key part of how we plan and deliver highly accurate cancer treatment. It is not a single procedure, but a comprehensive, image-guided process that uses the most advanced technology to help your surgical oncologist visualize the full extent of the disease — not just the main tumor, but also any small, impalpable lesions nearby that could otherwise go undetected during surgery.

This mapping process is especially valuable in women undergoing breast-conserving surgery, lumpectomy, or oncoplastic reconstruction, where the goal is to remove the entire tumor while preserving as much healthy breast tissue as possible.

  • Prior scans, including mammograms, ultrasounds, and MRIs, are reviewed.
  • Additional imaging may be done to identify all suspicious areas. High-resolution tools help capture the complete picture of the tumor, including small satellite lesions.
  • Depending on the tumor size and location, precise localization techniques such as wire guidance or radioactive tracers may be used to mark the target area. This ensures the surgeon can confidently reach and remove the full extent of the tumor.
  • The mapped information is used by the surgical oncologist in the operating room to accurately locate and remove the tumor with clear margins. This enhances surgical precision and reduces the likelihood of needing a second surgery.
