Types Of
Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is classified based on where it originates:

The most common type; starts in the cells covering the outer surface of the ovary.

Develop from the cells that produce eggs; rare but typically affect younger women

Rare form of ovarian cancer; arise from the hormone-producing cells within the ovary

All diagnostic services are overseen by specialists in women’s imaging and pathology.

Screening

Routine screening is not recommended for all women, but those at high risk — such as carriers of BRCA mutations or with a strong family history — should undergo:

Ovarian cancer often develops silently, but regular screening gives every woman the power to detect changes early — when prevention and treatment are most effective.

Staging of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is staged from I to IV, with lower numbers indicating less spread. Prognosis varies significantly based on the stage at diagnosis, with the overall 5-year survival rate being approximately 49%. For Stage I cancer, the survival rate is around 90%, while for Stage IV disease, it is about 20%.

Radiation Oncology

While radiation therapy plays a limited role in early-stage ovarian cancer, it may be used in specific scenarios:

  • Targeted radiotherapy: Occasionally considered for localized recurrence in pelvic or nodal areas.
  • Palliative radiation: Helps relieve pain, bleeding, or symptoms from tumor spread in advanced or recurrent ovarian cancer.
Survivorship & Supportive Care
Healing Beyond Treatment

Cancer treatment is only one part of the journey. Survivorship care focuses on helping women recover fully-physically, emotionally, and socially-after cancer. It addresses long-term health, supports emotional well-being, and ensures women regain confidence and quality of life.

At Athenaa, our care does not stop when treatment ends. Survivorship is about restoring health, dignity, and confidence, helping every woman live fully, thrive, and embrace life after cancer.
