It’s recommended to avoid deodorants, powders, or lotions on the chest or underarms on the day of the test, as these can interfere with the images.
Wearing a two-piece outfit makes it easier to undress from the waist up.
Patients should inform the technician if they are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have breast implants.

A trained female radiographer performs the test.
Each breast is gently positioned between two flat plates for a few seconds to spread the tissue evenly.
Two images are taken of each breast — one from the top and one from the side.
The compression may cause brief discomfort, but it is usually mild and ensures clearer, more accurate images.
The entire process usually takes 10–15 minutes.

Normal activities can be resumed right away.
Some women may feel mild soreness for a few hours, which fades on its own.
Results are generally available within 24–48 hours.
If anything unusual is found, follow-up tests such as ultrasound, contrast mammography, or biopsy may be recommended.
