Breast Cancer at Athenaa

Rebuilding Strength, One Woman at a Time

What It Is

Breast cancer begins when cells in the breast grow abnormally, forming a lump or mass. It can originate in the milk ducts (ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (lobular carcinoma), and may spread to surrounding tissue or lymph nodes if not detected early. While it’s the most common cancer among women globally, it’s also highly treatable when caught early

At Athenaa, we believe breast cancer is not just a disease of the body—it impacts identity, emotion, and confidence. That’s why we offer a comprehensive, woman-centred approach to every stage of care

Symptoms & Early Signs

Every woman’s body speaks—Athenaa helps her listen. Watch out for

  • A new lump or thickening in the breast or underarm

  • Change in the size or shape of the breast

  • Dimpling, puckering, or redness of the skin

  • Nipple discharge (other than breast milk), especially if bloody

  • Inversion or retraction of the nipple

  • Pain in any area of the breast (not linked to menstruation)

  • Not all lumps are cancerous—but every lump deserves attention.

Risk Factors (Specific to Women)

While breast cancer affects both men and women, women bear over 99% of the burden. Risk factors include

  • Family history (especially BRCA1/2 gene mutations)

  • Early onset of menstruation or late menopause

  • First pregnancy after 30 or never having a full-term pregnancz

  • Long-term use of oral contraceptives or hormone therapy

  • Obesity, sedentary lifestyle, or high alcohol intake

  • Dense breast tissue

  • Prior radiation therapy to the chest

  • History of benign breast conditions
