Wilms' Tumor Risk Factors

Although the causes of Wilms’ tumor are not exactly known, some factors may be:

  • Age: Most children who develop Wilms’ tumors are between 3 and 5 years of age
  • Gender: It is more common in females
  • Genetic syndromes such as
    • WAGR syndrome
    • Denys-Drash syndrome
    • Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome
  • Other genetic conditions include:
    • Perlman syndrome
    • Sotos syndrome
    • Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome
    • Bloom syndrome
    • Li-Fraumeni syndrome
    • Frasier syndrome
    • Trisomy 18
