It takes several years for noticeable symptoms to develop and the disease progression depends on the type of vulvar cancer.
When vulvar cancer is found and treated early it has a high rate of cure.
The main treatment for vulvar cancer is surgery.
Radiation therapy and chemotherapy may be used if the cancer cannot be entirely removed with surgery, if the cancer has a high risk of coming back, and/or if the cancer is found in lymph nodes.
The Pap test does not screen for vaginal or vulvar cancers. Since there is no simple and reliable way to screen for any gynecologic cancers except cervical cancer, it is especially important to recognize warning signs, and learn what you can do to reduce your risk.
