While the exact cause of a woman’s uterine cancer may not be known, certain risk factors are strongly linked to the disease.
- Hormonal imbalance in women
- Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, obesity and diabetes facilitate the unopposed action of estrogen in the body (i.e. increased level of estrogen, but not the level of progesterone).
- Early menarche and delayed menopause.
- No history of childbirth or infertility.
- Obesity
- Previous history of breast or colon cancer
- Hormone therapy for breast cancer. Taking hormone therapy for breast cancer can increase the risk of developing endometrial cancer.
