Treatment

  • Targeted therapy is the primary treatment for CML. Targeted therapy drugs are usually very good at controlling CML, often for long periods and with less severe side effects than chemotherapy drugs. However, they must take them every day.
  • Children who develop a blast crisis may require stem cell transplant. This is done through an allogeneic transplant. In an allogeneic transplant, blood stem cells can be taken from a donor whose bone marrow most closely matches the patient. These cells are used to replace diseased stem cells.
