Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy

Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)

Introduction

Stereotactic body radiotherapy is a special technique of radiotherapy. It is used to deliver highly focused radiation to treat tumors of relatively smaller volumes, other than those in the brain. The tumors are treated to high doses of radiation per fraction over a relatively short duration such as over a period of 5-6 days. SBRT requires linear accelerators which have modern flattening filter free technology. The treatment warrants high levels of precision and quality assurance procedures prior to delivery of radiation. Such high precision treatment is made possible by imaging, matching and verifying the position each time prior to delivery of radiation.
