Oncoplasty Procedures

There are various techniques of Oncoplasty, broadly classified into Volume displacement and volume replacement techniques. The choice of technique varies according to the tumour, and breast characteristics, patient fitness, and your surgeon.

Volume displacement techniques refer to rearrangement of the breast parenchyma after oncological tumour excision, to achieve an optimum cosmetic result.

Volume replacement techniques are resorted to when the defect following tumour excision is so large that it will require to be replaced by tissue or muscle from the surrounding areas of the patient’s body such as patient’s back or undersurface of the breast etcetera.

Occasionally, opposite breast symmetrisation procedures may be required to achieve the best possible cosmetic result.
