Apollo Children’s Hospital has launched the Apollo Paediatric Psychiatry Liaison & Education department (APPLE), India’s first Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry Department in Chennai. The department was inaugurated by Ms. B. A patient diagnosed was diagnosed with Acute Budd Chiari syndrome of cryptogenic etiology causing portal hypertension and ascites. The patient was advised TIPS (TRANSJUGULAR INTRAHEPATIC PORTOSYSTEMIC SHUNT) which relieves hepatic venous outflow obstruction and portal hypertension as well as prevents ascites formation and life threatening complications like GI bleed. A 10mm x 10cm PTFE covered metal stent was placed between the middle hepatic vein and right portal vein under fluoroscopic guidance. The procedure was uneventful.

A 39-year-old male suffered chest injury following RTA. Chest pain was disproportionate to the chest injury. An ECG revealed anterior ST segment elevation following surgery. Angiogram revealed the dissection of the LAD due to chest trauma. This lesion was successfully stented by Dr Manoj Aggarwal, Senior Consultant – Cardiology and patient was relieved of symptoms and stabilized.
