Apollo Hospital, Bangalore has successfully removed a large tumor from the abdomen of an international patient from Iraq. The patient Fawazi was detected with a tumor 18 years ago, which grew in size and weight over time.

Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, have adopted ‘Sharan’, a white tiger, for a period of one year under the animal adoption scheme offered at the Nehru Zoological Park.
The zoo said till date there had been 32 animal adoptions for which it received Rs. 56.28 lakh and described the response to the scheme as ‘encouraging’ and said efforts will continue for more participation.
 

Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals participated in the North American Bengali Conference (NABC) 2013 held in Toronto, Canada from 5-7 July 2013. Apollo Hospitals performed the first heart transplant surgery from its facility in Hyderabad on a 19-year old student, Veer Anjaneyulu, suffering with dilated cardiomyopathy. The case is related to end-stage heart failure leading to depression of heart muscle. The operation was performed on 11th November by Dr Vijay Dixit, Chief of Cardiothoracic surgery, Apollo Hospitals. Dilated cardiomyopathy was very common in India and can be treated through drugs.

Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals announced the successful treatment of a 90 years old woman suffering from a stroke with Thrombolysis. Mrs. Harsharan Kaur, a resident of New Delhi, proved that there is no age barrier to thrombolysis in stroke patient.

UPA Chairperson and Congress Party President,Smt. Sonia Gandhi felicitated India’s first successful liver transplant recipient, Sanjay Kandasamy from Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu who had undergone a liver transplant in November 1998 at Apollo Hospitals Delhi.

The DATRI donor drive will kick start on the 5th of July at Apollo Speciality Hospital from morning 9 am to 5 pm for donors who wish to register. This will then be sustained through all Apollo Blood Bank services with registration facilitated through the Apollo blood banks across the country. Anybody in the age group of 18-50, who is medically fit, can volunteer to register themselves by donating a sample of their cheek cells which is then screened and registered.

This is a story of a woman who defied all odds and gave birth to a child. In a foreign country, five-month pregnant Shaheen Ahmad went desperately knocking on doors of different hospitals even as she was losing precious water from her womb. She was told that at 22 weeks, she had no chance to deliver a child that would live. She was advised abortion but no hospital was ready to admit her.

Apollo has been bestowed with the Asia HRD Awards 2013 for Contribution by HR to an Organisation.
Apollo group was specifically recognised for the contribution to the HR community and the Health Industry. The award was given at the Asia HRD Congress in Jakarta. Apollo was the only Organisation recognised from India in the entire Asia Pacific Region.
Mr. Jacob Jacob, Chief People Officer received the award by the wife of the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia.
