Dr. Pavankumar Biraris is a distinguished Chest Physician and Interventional Pulmonologist with over 12 years of experience across corporate and government healthcare sectors. He earned his Diploma in Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases from B.J. Government Medical College, Pune (Maharashtra University of Health Sciences) and subsequently completed his DNB in Pulmonary Medicine (Respiratory Medicine) at P.D. Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mumbai, under the mentorship of Dr. Z.F. Udwadia. In recognition of his academic excellence, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
Dr. Biraris pursued further education in Interventional Pulmonology through an extensive two-year advanced training at Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore, under the guidance of Dr. Ravindra Mehta. He further enriched his expertise as a visiting Fellow in Interventional Bronchoscopy and Thoracic Endoscopy at the University of Ancona, Italy, training under the renowned Professor Stefano Gasparini. He also holds the prestigious European Diploma in Adult Respiratory Medicine, awarded by the European Respiratory Society.
He possesses extensive proficiency in advanced pulmonary procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound techniques (EBUS-TBNA, EUS-B-FNA, Radial EBUS), rigid bronchoscopy, central airway disease management, airway stenting, cryo-biopsy, navigational bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, and thoracoscopy.
Dr. Biraris is currently affiliated as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. He is also a faculty member for the Fellowship in Pulmonary Oncology, a pioneering academic program at Tata Memorial Hospital dedicated to training pulmonologists in the emerging field of Onco-pulmonology.
He has played a pivotal role in advancing clinical excellence in Interventional Pulmonology and Onco-pulmonology. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Biraris remains an active researcher with numerous publications in national and international journals.
