Dr. Nikhilesh Krishna is a renowned Gastro intestinal, Bariatric, Metabolic, and Robotic Surgeon based in Chennai, India, with over 14 years of surgical experience, including one decade dedicated to bariatric and metabolic surgery. Recognized for his clinical excellence, innovation, and academic leadership.

He serves as a Senior Consultant, Institute of Bariatrics, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, one of India’s premier bariatric surgery programs. He has extensive and continually evolving qualifications across digestive surgery, laparoscopy , SILS, robotic surgery, endoscopy, and surgical technology with added expertise in the medical (non-surgical) management of obesity.

He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in a premier institution in Chennai and subsequently underwent advanced training in Gastrointestinal Surgery at Government Royapettah Hospital in 2012.He served as Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, until mid-2014. Pursuing advanced specialization in minimally invasive surgery, he undertook fellowship training in Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery in Mumbai and was awarded a Fellowship by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) during 2014–2015.Dr. Krishna has received comprehensive training under eminent surgeons in the fields of gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery and has developed expertise in advanced laparoscopic techniques, including single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) and scar-less surgical approaches. He has also completed formal training in robotic surgery, enabling the delivery of precision-based, minimally invasive gastrointestinal and bariatric procedures. His clinical practice follows a comprehensive obesity-care model, integrating lifestyle-based, medical, and surgical management tailored to individual patient needs.

Practicing at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, he offers personalized, evidence-based obesity care ranging from lifestyle and medical therapy to advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgical solutions.

Trained in premier minimal access GI surgery units since his post-graduate training, Dr. Krishna has extensive experience in advanced open, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted procedures. During his fellowship in one of the busiest surgical programs in the country, he was part of teams performing complex upper GI, colorectal, bariatric, and metabolic surgeries, gaining deep expertise in comprehensive obesity treatment.

His clinical practice includes medical and surgical management of obesity, robotic and laparoscopic bariatric and metabolic surgery, advanced hernia repair, complex upper GI surgery, and redo bariatric procedures—allowing patients access to both surgical and non-surgical weight-loss options under one roof.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Krishna is actively involved in training and mentoring surgeons in robotic surgery, laparoscopic GI surgery, bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, and obesity management. He is a teaching faculty member at J&J Institutes, Chennai, and regularly participates in hands-on training programs, live surgical workshops, and academic initiatives at Apollo Hospitals.

Dr. Krishna has a strong academic and research interest in bariatric, metabolic, and obesity medicine, and has presented his work at several national and international conferences. His recent research was selected for presentation at the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).
