About Dr Jai Kumar Kriplani

Dr Jai Kumar Kriplani is a kidney specialist in Indore who manages a wide range of kidney-related ailments. He treats chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, kidney failure and nephrotic syndrome.

He has also worked with kidney transplantation, dialysis and critical care nephrology. His clinical practice includes transplant case selection, immunosuppression management, monitoring and follow-up. His profile also encompasses teaching and postgraduation training in nephrology.

Areas of Nephrology Expertise

Dr Kriplani's areas of nephrology expertise include the following clinical areas:

  • Kidney disease and kidney failure: Chronic and acute kidney disease.
  • Kidney transplant: Transplant evaluation, case selection, immunosuppression management and post-transplant follow-up.
  • Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis: Treatment planning.
  • Dialysis vascular access: Permacath and temporary lines.
  • Critical care nephrology: Management of kidney-related problems in critically ill patients.

Kidney Disease & Kidney Failure

  • Chronic kidney disease is a long-term condition in which kidney structure or function is impaired and may gradually worsen over time.
  • Acute kidney injury involves sudden loss of kidney function. It needs immediate evaluation.
  • Kidney failure is the state when the kidneys are unable to function properly, and kidney replacement therapy may be needed.
  • Nephrotic syndrome involves protein loss from the kidneys through urine. Swelling often follows.
  • Polycystic kidney disease is inherited. Over time, cysts slowly enlarge the kidneys.
  • Resistant hypertension is high blood pressure not controlled by treatment. It can indicate kidney disease.

Quando dovresti consultare un nefrologo?

A nephrologist can assist when the individual experiences:

  • Oedema (swelling) in the legs, feet or around the eyes.
  • Foamy urine, blood in urine or decreased production of urine
  • Persistent tiredness or unexplained nausea
  • Persistent high blood pressure despite medication.
  • Blood analyses that are abnormal for kidney function

Kidney disease can progress without symptoms, so abnormal lab results should also be reviewed.

Kidney Transplant Expertise

For certain patients who suffer from severe kidney failure, a kidney transplant might be an option. Dr Kriplani has extensive experience in case selection, immunosuppression and post-transplant management for renal transplants. Medicines that reduce the risk of rejection are called immunosuppressants.

Emodialisi e dialisi peritoneale

  • Hemodialysis uses a dialysis machine to filter blood. Dr Kriplani manages case selection, dialysis prescription, adequacy, and complications.

  • Peritoneal (abdominal) dialysis filters your blood using the lining of your abdomen. He specialises in acute peritoneal catheterisation and CAPD patient care. Treatment programs remain personalised.

Dialysis Vascular Access

Dialysis requires constant access to the bloodstream. Dr Kriplani has experience with Permacath placement and temporary vascular access procedures.

Nefrologia di terapia intensiva

Critical Care Nephrology is the nephrology subspecialty that treats kidney disease in critically ill patients. These include acute kidney injury, fluid and electrolyte changes and acid-base disorders. Dr Kriplani collaborates with critical care teams when kidney function rapidly changes.

Kidney Disease Diagnostic Evaluation

Doctors choose tests based on symptoms and history. Not all tests are necessary for all patients. Options include:

  • Creatinina sierica ed eGFR
  • Urinalysis and electrolyte testing
  • Valutazione della pressione sanguigna
  • CT or other imaging, where clinically indicated
  • Kidney ultrasound and renal Doppler
  • Kidney biopsy in selected cases.

Kidney Transplant Care Journey

  1. Kidney function assessment helps determine the cause and severity of kidney disease.
  2. Transplant evaluation assesses medical appropriateness.
  3. The patient receives pre-transplant care.
  4. Transplantation planning includes surgical care.
  5. Immunosuppressive medicines are given after transplantation to prevent the body from rejecting the transplanted organ.

Dialysis Treatment Journey

After assessment, the next step in the care process is dialysis. This is followed by access planning and prescription. Finally comes monitoring and complications management.

Teaching & Academic Contributions

Dr Kriplani has been involved in postgraduate medical teaching and nephrology training.  He actively teaches postgraduate medical students and guides DNB Nephrology trainees in renal medicine and dialysis.
