Dr. Saurabh Misra is a laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon who has been working as a Senior Consultant at Apollo Hospital in Bangalore since 2006. He has performed over 7000 laparoscopic and bariatric operations. After a complication of his MS operation in Rajasthan in 1997, he began his career as a Registrar at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, where he received advanced laparoscopic surgery training. Later, he was accepted as a Fellow in Bariatric Surgery at the famed Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, where he trained under Drs. Geff Thompson and Kendrik (2004-2005). He began conducting bariatric surgery independently in 2005 and was the first surgeon to do such procedures at Apollo Hospital in Goa. In 2010, he was asked to attend the ??orld Leaders Hernia Round Table Conference??in Shanghai, China (only 5 surgeons were invited). In 2012, he designed and developed SMILS, his own minimal access surgical procedure, which was accepted for publication in the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery. He was invited to give a guest lecture on Metabolic and Bariatric surgery at the API conference in Hubli, Karnataka, in 2014. He has published around 25 clinical research papers to date. In 2011, he was appointed as teaching faculty at the Ethicon Surgery Training Institute as a consultant by Johnson and Johnson, USA. In 2014, he was invited to give a guest lecture on metabolic surgery in Hubli by the Karnataka Medical Association. In 2015, Medtronic, USA hired him as a Proctor for teaching incoming doctors laparoscopic and hernia surgery. In 2015, he was also elected as a member of the HSI (Hernia Society of India) EC, representing the south zone. He conducted the PACE programme with Medtronic USA for young upcoming surgeons in Mumbai and Bangalore in 2015.
