Apollo Hospitals has taken up outcome measurement with the standard sets of ICHOM , the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement , an organization that Boston Consulting Group co- founded with Professor Michael Porter of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
ICHOM Standard Sets for specific diseases and conditions will be used and we will be measuring both physician related data and also filling "Patient Reported Outcome Measures", (PROMS).
For us , measuring ICHOM Standard Sets helps in learning, improving performance, and demonstrating superior performance. To measure is to learn, and learning has both a local and an international dimension. Within individual facilities, practices, and provider organizations, clinicians can learn from the outcomes data they gather, improving the lives of their own patients and their colleagues’ patients. At the same time, data derived from standard, internationally-accepted metrics allow care teams across geographies to learn from one another. Measuring and reporting outcomes data allows caregivers from Chicago to Chennai, from Dublin to Delhi, from Tel Aviv to Hyderabad , to evaluate their work using the universal “language” of health outcomes.
For Apollo hospitals , this is another step in our quest for clinical quality . It also unites clinicians around what matters most: the outcomes of the care we deliver.
