The first refreshing showers of rain are always a welcome change after the scorching summer months. Vibrant and colourful umbrellas, paper boats in puddles, a warm cup of tea, the aroma of freshly drenched soil and the light pitter-patter of raindrops create a beautiful concoction of images in one’s mind. The idea of monsoon may seem very soothing but along with this season comes an array of diseases and infections which need to be averted smartly.
The constant downpour, high moisture levels and fluctuating temperatures make us more vulnerable to widespread sickness and prone to infection easily. In order to relish this season without worrying about impending ailments, one must be extra cautious to stay guarded and healthy.
Drink lots of water
Consume lots of fluids and water but you must ensure that it is clean, filtered water. Untreated water contains a lot of unwanted bacteria which is harmful, especially during monsoon when our bodies are even more susceptible to infection and flu. Make sure that your drinking water is purified and suitable for consumption.
Keep your surroundings clean
A clean home is a reflection of a healthy body. Avoid accumulation of dirt and water anywhere in the near vicinity. Stagnant water is a nuisance as it is a common breeding ground for mosquitoes which lead to diseases like malaria, dengue and several other water borne diseases which may be contagious. Keep your city, neighbourhood and above all, your house clean.
Eat fresh and healthy
Avoid eating out, especially street food which may be extremely unhygienic particularly during monsoon. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly to kill germs and prepare nutritious meals with utmost care and hygiene. You must also increase your Vitamin C intake as it acts as a natural antibody and boosts immunity.
Maintain personal hygiene
Getting drenched in the rain may sound very exciting but the repercussions are not fun at all. Fungal and bacterial skin infections, rashes and allergies are prevalent during the monsoon season. Use anti-bacterial shower products and always clean up before and after stepping outdoors. Wash your hands regularly to steer clear of germs.
Preparedness is the key
Make raincoats, umbrellas and rain boots your best friends. Keeping rain gear handy every time you step out is the best way to brave the erratic rain. Being well equipped will surely ensure well being.
A little extra care from your end could shelter you from all the potential monsoon illnesses. Your effort to stay healthy will go a long way and you will be able to enjoy this fantastic season to the fullest. Have a happy monsoon!
