- Quit the stick
Every time you smoke a cigarette, you inhale different types of chemicals which are harmful to your body including tar, carbon monoxide etc. Smoking can put you at a higher risk of lung cancer. It can also make the existing diseases if any like COPD, Asthma etc severe. The toxins you inhale from cigarettes can increase mucus formation and make it difficult for your lungs to clean themselves. The airways slowly become narrow, they age rapidly and can change lung cells from normal to cancerous. Although, quitting smoking is not easy but once you do carbon monoxide levels drop, the risk of coronary heart disease reduces and your lungs function properly.
- Exercise. Breathe. Repeat
The way you exercise to keep your body fit & healthy, the same way exercise helps in keeping your lungs healthy. When you exercise along with your heart your lungs also work faster, hence wanting more oxygen for the muscles to function. During such times, your lungs give out carbon dioxide and provide oxygen to the heart. The more you exercise, the healthier your lungs become. It also resists ageing & numerous diseases.

Avoid heavy traffic and take proper precautions if you work in mining, waste management etc. Decrease pollutants at home too by making it a smoke-free zone, cleaning household furniture often, keep rooms ventilated and avoid synthetic room fresheners.
- Goodbye infections

Keep your hands clean, don’t touch your face with dirty hands, drink plenty of water and eat fruits which help in boosting your immune system and keep your lungs healthy!
- Deep breaths, please
Don’t take small breaths, deep breathing helps in clearing the lungs and creates a full lot of oxygen exchange in the body.
