Exercises to Prevent Memory Loss

Exercises to prevent memory loss

With an increase in age, your brain starts failing to retain information, leading to memory loss. It is important to take care of your brain so that it can maintain its capacity and help decelerate the process of memory loss.

If you are thinking of ways to do so, here are some easy tips for you:

  1. Keep a journal – At the end of each day, write down all the things that you have done throughout the day. This makes you recall all your actions and the events of the day. Thinking about the trail of events strengthens the brain’s capacity to function properly and prevents memory loss.

  1. Play with numbers and alphabets – Number games like Sudoku and word games like Crossword, Scrabble etc compel you to think logically and analyse critically. This enables your brain cells to retain their operative efficiency, thereby hindering memory loss. Long periods of thinking with regard to problem-solving, prompts the brain to use its memory cells effectively.

  1. Learn a foreign language – Learning a new language involves memorising unfamiliar alphabets, syllables, words, and expressions. It facilitates the brain to absorb new information and attempt to retain it. This is a good exercise for your brain to help impede memory loss.

  1. Learn to cook – If you love eating, learn how to cook! Cooking is an activity that involves almost all your senses: smell, sight, taste, touch, and sound. Applying all your senses simultaneously is an art that makes the brain cells multitask, which prevents memory loss.

  1. Test your memory – Examine your power to remember everything that you encounter and perform. The more you engage in exercising your brain to think carefully, the more it releases positive energy and makes its cells work to stall memory loss. Doing this on a regular basis is a definite way of preventing memory loss.

  1. Maintain physical fitness – For maintaining a healthy and functional brain that can keep memory loss at bay, you must exercise physically. As the body and mind are connected, a healthy body naturally leads to a competent mind. Engage in easy exercises like brisk walking, jogging, running, and aerobics. These activities enable a greater intake of oxygen, leading to better blood circulation within the brain.

  1. Read – Open your mind to new concepts and learn different facts every day. This helps your brain absorb more information and prevent memory loss. Read books, magazines, journals, and newspapers, to amass your knowledge. In this way, your mind is constantly in contact with unknown areas that require understanding and memorising to a certain extent.

Memory loss is a common problem among people nowadays, as most of the time is spent on mechanical activities. People rely on technology even during their leisure time, avoiding activities that involve the mind and brain.

If you are facing rapid memory loss, visit a doctor and seek clinical assistance immediately. To know more consult a doctor at Ask Apollo.
