5 Essential Tips for a Safe & Healthy Winter!

Winter

The temperature is steadily dropping. You are armed with all the equipment and gear which the winter season requires – warm blankets and a mug of hot cocoa included!

But what about your health?

The cold, winter months can affect your immunity and result in health complications. Cold sores, flu, dehydration, low energy and winter germs are common aspects during these months. Hence, it becomes essential for you to keep yourself safe and protected in winters.

With the five tips mentioned below, giving your health the much-needed boost will be easy –

Be stress-free

De-stressing is the magic word, this winter season. It is understandable that the cold weather and work stress can wear you down. When the going gets tough, just close your eyes take a deep breath and meditate! Meditation has the power to soothe your nerves, helps you in focusing on your breathing and relaxes your body. Also, don’t hinder your normal sleep schedule by consuming a large meal at dinner or drinking coffee before bed.

Keep heartburn at bay

Acid reflux symptoms include a burning sensation in the chest and constant coughing. This is known as heartburn and this condition can ruin your holiday cheer. So, it is best to avoid fatty and sugar-rich foods which can trigger heartburn. Instead, opt for complex carbohydrates like fresh vegetables, fruits, whole-wheat breads, etc. Practicing some light exercises can also prevent acid reflux along with alleviating other symptoms like nausea and bloating.

Wash hands frequently

Several diseases such as respiratory illnesses occur in winter months due to germs. Hence, it is advisable to wash your hands, at least five times a day. Scrubbing, rinsing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds will keep them squeaky clean. This simple task helps in keeping viruses, bacteria at bay along with keeping you healthy throughout the year. If soap dispensers are not available, then keep a hand sanitizer with you at all times.

Opt for the right supplements

Boosting your nutrition with a daily dose of supplement becomes important, especially in winters. Opting for multivitamins like Vitamin A, B6, C, and D will be beneficial for your health. Adding minerals like folic acid, calcium, selenium and zinc in meals will help in the better absorption of nutrients in your body. Certain essential oils also improve your immunity system, strengthen your body and help you in overcoming flu and colds.

Exercise regularly

The cool, winter air can often discourage you when it comes to exercising and also make you feel lethargic. However, maintaining your fitness routine becomes essential during this season as it strengthens your body and immunity system. Regular physical activities will keep you healthy and happy, both physically and mentally. Go for a brisk walk, do some Yoga postures,  perform certain free-hand workout routines and you will be all set to face the winter chills!

For enjoying the cooler weather, it is crucial to treat your health as a priority. So, increase your water consumption and avoid bingeing on junk food. Try and get more rest and follow the above-mentioned tips for having a relaxed and happy winter!
