University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Nigeria successfully performed its first Open Heart Surgery by a team of surgeons led by Dr Neville Solomon of Apollo Hospitals Chennai, India.

The Teaching Hospital has now joined the league of three or four other teaching hospitals that can perform Open Heart Surgery in the country. This first session of Open Heart Surgery was held in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals Chennai, India.

A team of doctors have successfully performed a complex Paediatric liver transplant surgery on a 4-year old child suffering from a rare disorder.

4-year old, Salama was suffering from a rare metabolic disorder Ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) deficiency where the liver lacks enzymes required for processing proteins. After consulting various doctors, she was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in July and was advised a liver transplantation surgery.
