Botulinum toxin injections play a vital role in several neurological disorders because they block nerve signals that cause the muscle to contract. Neurologists mostly use these injections in smaller doses to reduce pain, improve motor function, and enhance quality of life. At Apollo Hospitals in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, our neurologists administer these injections with precision, providing relief for patients with conditions of abnormal muscle activity.

What Happens During the Procedure?
The administration of botulinum toxin depends on the size of the treated area and other factors. The injection is usually done in an office setting, and tiny amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into the skin or muscle. In some cases, ultrasound scans/EMG guidance may be used to ensure the needle is placed accurately.
Before the procedure, neurologists may numb your hand or the area injected by surface anaesthetics, especially if you are being treated for heavy sweating. Numbing can be done by applying anaesthesia, using ice, or through massage (known as vibration anaesthesia).
