    FAQ's

You may require care at the Critical Care Department if you have a life-threatening illness or a potential risk of organ failure. This can include severe burns, obstructed or threatened airways, heart, kidney, or respiratory failure, severe bleeding or injuries, trauma such as falls or car crashes, those after undergoing major surgeries, and individuals with repeated or prolonged seizures.

In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), patients with life-threatening conditions are continuously monitored by a team of critical care experts. They can be connected to various machines, like artificial ventilators and heart monitors, which can emit beeps or alarms to indicate changes in the patient’s condition. Patients are also connected to tubes for administering nutrients and fluids and removing waste products from the body..

As critically ill patients are monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), family members cannot stay with patients at all times. However, visitations can be arranged through discussions with our critical care team.

The length of your Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay depends on the severity of your condition. Some people may leave after a few days, while others may need to stay for weeks or months. However, most people will have a good recovery after leaving the intensive care unit. Usually, our specialists will inform you regarding the expected duration of your stay.

When you no longer require intensive care, you will be transferred to another ward, which can take from a few days to several months based on your condition. You may experience certain side effects during post-ICU recovery, such as weakness, stiffness, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, trouble sleeping, depression, and anxiety.
