ENT stands for Ear, Nose, and Throat. An ENT, also known as an otolaryngologist, is a surgeon who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions of the head and neck, specifically the ears, nose, throat, sinuses, mouth, jaw, and face.
Here are some of the conditions that ENTs can treat:
Ear infections: Ear infections are a common condition in children, but they can also occur in adults. Symptoms of an ear infection can include earache, fever, drainage from the ear, and hearing loss.
Hearing loss: There are many different causes of hearing loss, including age-related hearing loss, noise-induced hearing loss, and ear infections. ENTs can diagnose the cause of hearing loss and recommend treatment options, such as hearing aids or surgery.
Sinusitis: Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses, which are the air-filled cavities in the face. Symptoms of sinusitis can include facial pain, congestion, runny nose, and postnasal drip.
Allergies: ENTs can diagnose and treat allergies, such as hay fever and allergic rhinitis. They can also perform allergy testing to identify the specific allergens that you are allergic to.
Tonsillitis: Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils, which are the two pads of tissue at the back of the throat. Symptoms of tonsillitis can include sore throat, fever, difficulty swallowing, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
Sleep apnea: Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Symptoms of sleep apnea can include snoring, daytime fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.
