Knee arthritis is a degenerative condition that affects the joints of the knee. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including aging, injury, and overuse. Over time, the cartilage that cushions the bones of the knee can wear down, causing knee pain, stiffness, and swelling.

      4 stages of knee arthritis

      • Stage 1: In this early stage of the disease, there is minimal damage to the cartilage. People with stage 1 knee arthritis may experience mild pain and stiffness, but they are typically able to maintain a normal range of motion.
      • Stage 2: As the disease progresses, the cartilage continues to break down and the bones of the knee begin to rub together. This can cause more severe pain, stiffness, and swelling. People with stage 2 knee arthritis may also have difficulty walking and climbing stairs.
      • Stage 3: In this stage of the disease, the cartilage has worn away almost completely. The bones of the knee are now rubbing directly against each other, causing severe pain and stiffness. People with stage 3 knee arthritis may have difficulty walking even short distances.
      • Stage 4: This is the most advanced stage of knee arthritis. The bones of the knee have been severely damaged and may have developed bone spurs. People with stage 4 knee arthritis may be unable to walk without assistance.

If you are experiencing pain or stiffness in your knees, it is important to see a doctor to get a diagnosis and discuss treatment options.
