Keeping your diabetes in check during Lockdown

      Managing diabetes effectively

This unprecedented health crisis our world has been faced with is scary and difficult for most us. However, those of us suffering from lifestyle diseases are struggling even more. The lack of opportunity and resources to eat healthy and exercise have diminished and so has the motivation & drive to stay healthy. However, we need to remember that it is even more imperative for us to stay in the best of health now as co-morbidities can worsen the impact of COVID-19 on an individual.

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when monitoring your blood sugar levels:

      Test regularly

A breakdown of your daily routine can leave feeling lethargic and demotivated. However, checking your blood sugar regularly is the first step keeping your diabetes in check. This will remind you to skip to sugary snacks and opt for a low-sugar fruit instead.

      Set reminders

With our days merged together, it is easy to lose the track of time and skip meals or forget to take medications on time. While you need to nurture your mental health and stay stress-free, your physical health should not take a backseat. To stay on track, you can put multiple reminders on your phone to remind you to eat and take your medicines on time.

      Stock Medications

While we hope for the lockdown to end soon, it is still safer to ensure that you’re not running out of medications in case it lasts longer than we hope. However, remember to be mindful of others in your situation and do not hoard medicines.

      Exercise

This is easier said than done during the lockdown. With no access to the gym or Zumba classes or even your favourite park, it can be difficult to stay active. A simple solution to this is walking every time you talk on the phone. With all this time on our hands, we’re connecting with family and friends via the phone. Us this time to stay on your feet. You can also pick a short Youtube exercise tutorial and use it to burn calories a couple of times during the day

If you follow these simple steps, you will be ready to get back to your normal, healthier self before this crises is over. All the best!
