Dr. Sangita Reddy

Inspired by her father, Dr. Prathap C Reddy's mission to bring healthcare within the reach of every individual, Sangita Reddy formally joined Apollo Hospitals in 1983. Widely acknowledged as the pioneer of private healthcare in India and a proponent of integrated healthcare, Apollo Hospitals has touched the lives of over 150 million individuals from 140 countries.

Sangita Reddy is the Joint Managing Director of the Apollo Hospitals Group. She guides the IT and Human Resources functions and is greatly responsible for evolving the patient-centric culture, a signature of the organization. Passionately committed to transforming healthcare using effective and efficient technology, she steered Apollo Hospitals to harness technological advancements in accelerating positive transformation. Four hospitals in the group have even achieved the HiMSS Level-6 certification.

A driving force for the eHealth initiatives, it was under her leadership that Apollo received three consecutive HiMSS - Elsevier ICT achievement awards. A firm believer in the potential of mHealth and iOT enabled health delivery, Sangita championed manifold initiatives and spearheaded the creation of a Mobile Health System that increases agility, productivity, and response time of the doctors and allied health professionals. Over the years, Sangita greatly influenced the development of Health IT in India through annual Health IT conferences and also by her participation in State and Central Government endeavours.

Instrumental in the group's retail and primary healthcare expansion, Sangita promoted and currently helms Apollo Health and Lifestyle Ltd., which includes innovative healthcare retail service formats such as family health clinics, diagnostic centres, birthing boutiques & maternal health centres, ambulatory surgery centres, dental spas and diabetes management facilities. In addition to strengthen the care continuum, Sangita introduced Apollo Home Care for the provision of trusted medical care in the comfort of the patient's home and Apollo Elder Care to provide customized geriatric care.

A passionate entrepreneur, Sangita founded Apollo Health Street in 1999, which soon grew to emerge as India's largest health business process outsourcing organization. Focused on developing customized world-class IT based solutions, its services extended the user team's business capabilities and financial strength.

Committed to building a more inclusive healthcare ecosystem in the nation, she championed the creation of SACHi (Save a Child's Heart Initiative) which supports diagnostics and treatment of underprivileged children ailing with congenital heart diseases. More recently, Sangita also led the formation of the Total Health Foundation which is anchoring an exemplary population health project in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The model aims to improve the 'total health' of people by acting on the wider determinants of health as well as providing access to healthcare from cradle to tomb.

In addition, cognizant of the acute need for skilled manpower in the country, she led a partnership between Apollo Hospitals and National Skill Development Corporation, which has now emerged as a purpose - driven public-private-partnership with a goal to skill half-a-million individuals before 2020.

Sangita also works with industry bodies and the Government of India on aspects of public health and policy development. An ardent champion advocating the benefits of a global delivery model through rural hospitals, outreach camps and telemedicine, Sangita is continuously engaged with governments to deliver innovative health services harnessing digital platforms. Furthermore, cognizant of the critical need to nurture entrepreneurship, she has mentored numerous start-ups in healthcare and technology.

Sangita Reddy is the Sr. Vice President of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industries). She is an elected Member of the Steering Committee on Health for the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012–2017) for the Government of India. She has also had close interactions with industry bodies such as National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) on incorporation of clinical and operational quality standards into overall hospital management governance. She is on the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council for Digital Health which aims to advance the use, adoption and measurement of technology in health and healthcare, focusing on digital health. Also recently, The Government of India appointed Sangita Reddy as the Honorary Consul of Brazil in Hyderabad.

In 2017, Australia's only university-led academic health sciences centre, Macquarie University conferred an honorary doctorate to Sangita Reddy in recognition of her untiring efforts and resolute commitment to bring transformative changes in Indian healthcare, development of Health IT in India and championing manifold initiatives both in India and abroad.

Sangita is a Board member of Results for Development Institute, a non-profit international think tank. She is a member of the Gavi Advisory Council and the Technology Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. She was a member of the Rockefeller Working Group focused on the private sector's role in global healthcare. She is also an Independent Director on the board of several companies engaged in Real Estate, Alternate Energy, Software and Automation.

She has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards for business and leadership. Yet her mainspring is her resolute commitment to bring about many more transformative changes in Indian healthcare making it much more accessible, affordable and truly inclusive.

Sangita Reddy graduated in Science with Honours from the Women's Christian College in Chennai, India. She also has a post graduate degree and has done executive courses in Hospital Administration from Rutgers University, Harvard University and the NUS.
