Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) has announced the launch of the Clinical Knowledge Development Program

Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) announced the launch of the "GAPIO Clinical Knowledge Development Program" at a programme organised on 28th July 2019 at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi.

GAPIO is a non-profit organization with a vision to "Improving Health Worldwide". GAPIO stands to empower physicians of Indian origin to achieve highest professional standards, to provide affordable good quality healthcare and contribute to local and regional community development and thereby help to reduce health inequalities and alleviate suffering globally. Its aims to bring together 1.4 million physicians of Indian origin across the world on one professional platform.

Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder President of GAPIO and Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group said, "this powerful workforce of physicians is a valuable resource, which can help to mobilize significant developments in healthcare globally. GAPIO has representation from 34 countries across the globe. Indian doctors are globally recognised for their clinical acumen. Platforms such as GAPIO would be instrumental in bringing the required change in the healthcare sector."

Mr. Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog said, "the launch of the Clinical Knowledge Development Program which incorporates clinical training programs, webinars, videos and a mentorship program will be very beneficial for the development of clinical expertise in members of the Indian medical community especially younger members, which is the need of the hour."

"Under GAPIO's Development Programs a Leadership Development Program was launched in 2017 where in soft skills, time management, communication, team building was imparted across the country. This program has now been taken overseas," said Dr Ramesh Mehta – President, GAPIO.

Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group and Vice President GAPIO said, "The Apollo Clinical Knowledge Development aims at training young physicians to enhance clinical skills to become better clinicians and give their best to society. In its first phase, the program will be held at 12 locations - Delhi, Ahmedabad, Madurai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Vizag. Programs will be addressed by distinguished doctors who are members of GAPIO working at reputed institutions in India and overseas."

In the first program, eminent Oncologist from New York, Padma Shri Prof. Dattatreyudu Nori, (International Director - Apollo Cancer Centres and Formerly Chief of Brachytherapy service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, USA, Formerly Professor and Chairman – Department of Radiation Oncology, New York-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medical Centre, USA, Formerly Director of the Cancer Centre, New York-Presbyterian Queens, USA) Dr. S K Wangnoo, (Senior Consultant, Endocrinology, former Physician to President of India) , Dr. Sai Satish (Senior Consultant – Structural Cardiology) and Dr. Sanjiv Jasuja (Senior Consultant, Nephrology) provided insights from their respective medical fields.
