The ‘Apollo Knee Clinic’ launched at Apollo Hospitals Chennai
Reinforcing its image as India’s premier super-specialty hospital, Apollo Hospitals Chennai launched the ‘Apollo Knee Clinic’ that offers a comprehensive solution for knee pain integrating the different elements of managing a knee disorder. The Apollo Knee Clinic was formally inaugurated at Apollo Hospitals Chennai by Cine Star Mr. Sarathkumar and the Apollo Knee Check programme launched by ace cricketing legend Mr. Krishnamachary Srikkanth.
The Apollo Knee Clinic will work from 5- 8 PM from Monday through Saturday at the Sindoori Block of the Apollo Main Hospital at Greams Road and at the Apollo Speciality Hospital Teynampet. The timings have been planned to enable individuals to consult with the best of Apollo Knee Specialists post working hours in a relaxed atmosphere.
A first-of-its-kind initiative, the specialized Apollo Knee Clinic will be managed by a team of orthopaedic professionals who have been exclusively trained to treat patients suffering from moderate to severe knee pain. The knee clinic will be operational at the Apollo Hospitals at Greams Road, Apollo Specialty Hospital at the Mount Road and the Apollo First Med Hospital at the Poonamalee High Road. The Apollo knee clinics will also be run at the Apollo Clinics at T Nagar, Annanagar and Koturpuram.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, said, “Apollo Knee Clinic offers a complete resolution for knee pain. Starting from prevention through early diagnosis and intervention, surgical intervention to rehabilitation, the Knee Clinic will provide a complete programme for people suffering from knee disorders due to causes ranging from arthritis, age, sports injuries and obesity. It is a 360 degree holistic approach with equal emphasis on prevention and rehabilitation for knee disorders.”
He added, “The Apollo Knee Clinic would function on a protocol-driven approach ensuring prevention and early diagnosis, followed by effective treatment through a complete disease management programme. The unit has been equipped with a dedicated operation theatre and physiotherapy department for post-operative rehabilitation.
Elaborating on the Apollo Knee Check, Dr Prathap Reddy said, ” The Apollo Knee Check is the cornerstone of the Knee clinic and is the vital factor that pins down the exact cause and origin of the knee disorder thereby ensuring evidence based management. Apollo Hospitals has been the pioneer for the Preventive Check programme in our country and have over the years launched many a need based health check package and the Knee Check is yet another unique programme specifically designed to include diagnostic tests that target knee disorders.
It is estimated that more than four million people above 60 years and more than six million across all age groups need help for knee disorders. Knee pain is one of the most common problems many face daily. The most common causes of chronic knee pain and disability are arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Sports-related injuries are another major cause of knee pain among the young. Such injuries require expert medical intervention and post-treatment rehabilitation.
