Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru performed a successful Transnasal Endoscopic Repair, a rare procedure on a 1 day old baby
A new born baby at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru was detected with Bilateral Congenital Choanal Atresia, a rare condition where there is no proper passage from nose to mouth. The condition, left unnoticed can lead to asphyxia and death. Soon after birth the doctors noticed the baby did not breathe instantly and was bluish in colour. Under the supervision of Dr. Sripathi Adhikari, Senior Consultant Pediatrician and Neonatologist and Dr. Harindra M N, Consultant ENT Surgeon at Apollo BGS Hospitals Mysuru, the baby was admitted to undergo the procedure named Transnasal Endoscopic repair without wasting anytime, as the baby’s life was at stake. The entire process was completed within 45 minutes the doctors’ expertise and vigilance worked at its best. The baby was breastfed few hours after the surgery and discharged after two days of the surgery.
