A 71-year-old patient with two prosthetic cardiac valves underwent a TRIC valve implantation procedure at Apollo Hospital, Chennai.

This groundbreaking procedure offers a lifesaving alternative for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation who are at high risk for traditional surgery. The recipient, a 71-year-old male with a complex history of cardiovascular issues including diabetes, hypertension, and previous 2 heart valve replacements (one open surgical and one TAVI valve done at Apollo hospitals few months ago), presented with symptoms that significantly reduced his quality of life. Traditional surgery posed too great a risk due to his frail condition and multiple comorbidities.

This innovative technique involves placing bioprosthetic valves in the major veins leading to the heart via a small pinhole procedure in the groin, significantly reducing surgical risks and recovery time.
