Gynecologic oncology is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, and vulvar cancer.
A gynecologic oncologist has extensive training and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of these cancers.
Gynecologic oncologists have completed obstetrics and gynecology residency and then have pursued superspecialty training in the management of female pelvic cancers.
Gynecologic oncologists treat cancer exclusively. This means they have an experience and expertise a general gynecologist or surgeon doesn’t.
Gynecologic oncologists offer an integrated approach to the diagnosis and surgical management of women’s cancers and also complex benign gynecologic diseases like extensive endometriosis and fibroids.
