Spectra Clinical Research Centre
Spectra Clinical Research Centre (SCRC) is
responsible for the conducting of clinical trials
and research for Apollo Hospitals Enterprise
Limited. The aim is to maintain professionalism,
integrity and responsiveness in the clinical
research process.
Activities
Drug trials
SPECTRA’S activities support pharmaceutical
companies' efforts to bring drugs to market or
registration. They encompass the site monitoring,
co-ordination and facilitation of clinical drug
trials. Drug trials are conducted in order to
ascertain the safety, efficacy and adverse effects,
if any, of a drug. All trials are conducted
according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP-ICH)
guidelines. The research team comprises GCP trained
physicians, laboratory personnel, clinical research
associates, pharmacists, IT specialists, financial
experts, social workers and accounts personnel.
There are currently 15 international and 55 domestic
drug trials being conducted at SCRC. The
international trials are multi-centric, global,
phase II and phase III trials, working towards FDA
and European Union registration.
Implementation of good
clinical practice
SCRC also provides consultancy services for the
implementation of Good Clinical Practice (GCP-ICH)
guidelines of the FDA and WHO.
Training
Training courses are to commence shortly on GCP/ICH
guidelines and clinical research and trial
methodologies for healthcare personnel. The GCP
guidelines provide a unified standard for designing,
conducting and recording trials that involve the
participation of human subjects.
Partnerships
Partnerships exist with multinational pharmaceutical
companies, domestic pharmaceutical companies, CROs,
hospitals, universities and other academic
institutions.
Current associations
At present SCRC has associations with Eli Lilly,
Ranbaxy, Pfizer, Bayer, Novartis, Aventis, Nova
Nordisk, Astra Zeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Cordis
Pharma, Dr. Reddy's Lab, Shantha Biogenics, Torrent
Pharma, Wyeth, GSK, Glenmark, and USV, for
conducting clinical trials. SCRC is also
coordinating trials for CROs like Covance &
Quintiles.
SCRC has three site management offices in Chennai,
Hyderabad and New Delhi for clinical trial
co-ordination.
