The Apollo Center of Excellence for Transplants is a service oriented establishment driven by patient needs, expectations, and complexity of clinical issues. The Transplant Centre has been established with a view to providing multidisciplinary state-of-the-art tertiary level services in transplantation and allied fields under one roof.
Spectrum of Services available at Transplant Center
Liver Transplants
The team of hepatologists and transplant surgeons have established India’s first Liver Center. It is equipped with high-end technology to perform precision surgery in this newly developed modality of surgical treatment. We perform live donor and cadaveric liver transplantation for children and adults with acute and chronic liver failure. With more than a 200 livers transplanted in the years gone by, we now perform 6 -8 liver transplants every month with success rates on par with international standards.
Kidney Transplants
The thrust of our program is on live related donor and cadaver kidney transplantation for adults and children with end stage kidney failure. Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is being increasingly used. The stringent infection control practices, immunosuppressive protocols and proactive vigil for complications and their prompt management make the service a huge success.
We perform nearly 60 liver transplants and near 100 renal transplants each year.
Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery
Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive tract, liver and pancreatico-biliary system in children and adults is at the core of this centre with more than 1600 admissions each year, along with more than 200 endoscopies conducted in the same period of time. The centre offers state of art endoscopic procedures for gastrointestinal bleed, gastrointestinal cancers, foreign bodies, obstructive jaundice, pancreatitis and feeding techniques. It has provisions for MARS and various modalities of treating liver cancer like surgery, RFA, chemoembolisation, percutaneous injections are available. The gastrointestinal surgeons manage major gastro-intestinal surgical problems of the intestines, pancreas and hepatobiliary tract including cancers, many of them through Minimal Access surgery.
Nephrology and Urology
With more than 1500 nephrology admissions and over 1500 urological surgeries each year, the center specializes in all aspects of nephrology providing personalized healthcare services like renal biopsies, critical care nephrology, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. The dialysis unit provides not only conventional hemodialysis but also CRRT, hemofiltration, hemoperfusion and plasma exchanges (plasmapheresis). More than 20,000 patients receive dialysis on an annual basis. The centre offers comprehensive urological services in the form of lithotripsy, endo-urology, TUNA etc . Laparoscopic urological surgeries are also performed.
Bone marrow and Corneal Transplant Services
Bone Marrow Transplants are performed to treat malignant conditions like Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, Lymphatic Leukaemia, Myeloma and Hodgkin's disease. Specific cases of solid tumours and genetic disorders like Thalassemia have also benefited from this treatment. The BMT unit has expertise in both Autologous and Allogenic bone marrow transplants.
