Apollo Hospitals started Clinical Research activities as early as in 2000 by setting up the first Site Management Organization in India. It has a rich experience of coordinating and conducting 450 Phase II, III, IV- global and multi centric trials. The Apollo group has the medical fraternity with global expertise and experience in Clinical Research and services, huge patient database, globally accredited hospitals, good IT support, clinical laboratories, imaging facility with the latest equipment, technology and dedicated GCP trained and Certified Clinical Research team. The Apollo Hospitals Education & Research Foundation, (AHERF) has expanded the site management capabilities to 8 Apollo centres and has plans to diverse it further to other states. The size of Clinical Research Industry in India by 2010 is projected to be about a billion US Dollars, and employing about 50,000 Clinical Research Professionals.
The supply of quality-trained manpower in this domain in India is far short of the demand. While there are many training programs in India, there is a large variation in the quality and practical content of these programs, their duration and fees etc. Very few of them offer practical/internship training at hospitals or clinical trial sites. The overall result of this has been that a large number of candidates who come out of such training programs do not find suitable placements, while at the same time the industry does not find suitable candidates to hire. It is to help meet this national demand for quality manpower in this domain that the Anna University-KBC Research Centre (AU-KBC), Auroville Healthcare (CRO) and AHERF, Chennai have jointly come forward and started programs in Clinical Research. These Joint Programs on Clinical Trial Management & Clinical Research are :
